A camera-readable text
A QR code is nothing more than text printed as a pattern of black and white squares. Your phone's camera reads those squares and decodes them back into text — instantly, with no internet connection and no app needed. Think of it as a barcode that can store any text you want.
What's actually stored inside?

The redirect trap
